Italian Charm Base Bracelets

The base bracelet is a set of 14 blank Italian Charms. They are made out of stainless steel and generally come in two major finishes, matte and shiny. There are dozens of other finishes that are offerred, but 99% of the bracelets out there are matte or shiny.

Each of the 14 Italian Charm links is sping-loaded, allowing it to stretch like a metal watch band. In fact, one theory is that the original Italian Charm bracelets were made from old watch bands.

In any event, the 14 Italian charms that make up the base bracelet are not quite enough to wear by themselves, so in addition to the base bracelet, you will need to buy some charms. Since it takes about 17 for most wrists, you need at least 3 more Italian Charms.

Your new Italian Charms attach to the base bracelet. As you acquire more Italian Charms, you remove blank Italian Charms from your base braclet to keep your bracelet the same size. But hold on to those removed charms in case you need to enlarge your bracelet slightly.

Most of the time, base bracelets cost about $10.

There are different quality base bracelets. Since most of your bracelet (at least starting out) is the base bracelet, you should pick a good quality one. Good ones are made from better steel and using better springs. They feel tighter when you stretch them out. If you buy your Italian Charms from a good vendor, they will most likely sell a good base bracelet as well.
