What are Licensed Italian Charms?There
are two kinds of Italain Charms - Licensed and Unlicensed.
"Licensed
Italian Charms" refer to Italian Charms which have images on them that owned by someone, therefore the Italian Charm
manufacturer has to pay a license to use the image. By
far the biggest maker of licensed Italian Charms is Casa D'Oro, which makes some
spectacular charms. You can see almost all of their charms at JJ Kent .
The
kinds of things that are licensed are characters (Pooh, Snoopy), people
(Marilyn Monroe, Elvis), bands (Beatles), logos (Junior Mints), and
so on. Licensed Italian Charms spice up a bracelet - you can have Bart
Simpson saying "Eat my shorts" on your charm if you like.
Because
of the fees involved, licensed Italian Charms are more expensive than unlicensed
Italian Charms. Usually, licensed Italian Charms are $20 - $30.
"Unlicensed Italian Charms" are ones that do not need licensing, like a charm
with a daisy or a ladybug or the American flag. Most charms are like this
Bootleg
charms are a real problem - unscrupulous manufacturers take the licensed
designs of a charm manufacturer and make "identical" charms, but
don't pay any royalties or adhere to any standards of quality. Don't buy
any licensed Italian Charm if the back of the charm doesn't have
the manufacturers name on it. They are almost certainly bootleg.
